...and naming things

 As the joke goes, naming things is the other hard problem in IT. I think there is one overlooked naming pattern that deserves more love.

So there is a piece of software called AwStats that collects Web server logs and makes pretty reports out of them. I am not sure what was the original thought about naming it, but to me, it has always been "Awwww, stats!" As in, lookit them stats, with their cute little tails! Point is, emotive interjection followed by the object of the emotion should be used in naming IT things more often. I'd check out a debugger called EwBugs. Or a media player called GaspMovies. Something to think about.
